Service Guidelines:
LOGGING HOURS
LOGGING HOURS
- Please log your hours the same day that you performed the community service if possible (deadlines are on the home page). Students should not wait more than 1 week to input service hours so that they can be verified in a timely manner.
- Verification emails can be found on the spreadsheet on the volunteer tab.
- If your hours are not being verified, you should directly email the adult activity sponsor to see if they received the email from x2VOL. If they did not receive the email or accidentally deleted it, please delete your original submission on x2VOL and start a brand new one with the same information.
- If all above attempts have failed, forward Ms. Fader the x2VOL support email you receive with a description of the service and adult sponsor verification email. Ms. Fader’s email is [email protected].
- Hours will not be approved into NHS by Ms. Fader until they have been verified by the adult activity sponsor. Below is a screenshot of Ms. Fader’s account. The claimed, verified, and approved columns should look similar to what you see in a student account.
VOLUNTEER HOURS -- BASIC INFORMATION:
- All NHS members (Juniors and Seniors) must complete 25 hours (minimum) of community or school service hours.
- Community service hours must be completed between April 21, 2018 and April 23, 2019 (Juniors & Seniors)
- Only community service hours earned through events advertised directly by NHS or volunteering for Katy ISD teachers/staff will count.
- Events that do not meet this requirement can be used for other clubs, MVP or for your own satisfaction but will not count towards NHS.
- If a volunteer event you want to attend is not on the list of events advertised by NHS, you can request to have it added to the list of accepted events if it meets the following criteria: the event accepts any NHS member regardless of race, ethnicity, club affiliation or religious affiliation (in short, anyone in the club can volunteer).
- Student organizations that sponsor a non-profit project that is not a requirement/expectation of the organization may count those hours. Example: Class Officers sponsor armband sales to raise money for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society; Student Council sponsors Katy Christian Ministries can drive, etc.
- There is a 10 hour maximum over the summer and a 10 hour limit for a single event.
- Hours volunteered at businesses that are not non-profit organizations will not be accepted. (some examples: sports gyms, sports teams, daycares).
- Students may not include hours for any activity for which pay is received.
- Students may not claim hours for baking food.
- Volunteer hours will not be accepted from immediate or extended family members. This includes working in the home or at the parent’s place of employment (or classroom), unless for a charity event (talk to the NHS sponsor beforehand).
- Fundraising activities for any THS organization, where the student is a member, will not count. Exception: Students may count hours worked for any TPA function or fundraiser. The monies earned by TPA benefit the entire school population.
- All of you should have an x2VOL account attached to Taylor High School already. After you were approved by the AP, you should have joined the National Honor Society group. You also needed to join the right goal: NHS Class of ________ (School Year).
- If you are not in the correct goal, your hours are currently not counting towards NHS.
- Incoming seniors need to be in the NHS Class of 2019 group on x2VOL. Make sure you have added yourself before logging hours. You should see a bar on the left side of your x2VOL Dashboard with the label: NHS Class of 2019. Incoming seniors, check the required hours spreadsheet above to see what leftover hours you have. You will be allowed to make these up during your senior year with a 5 hour penalty for not completing them your junior year. The next infraction you incur as a member may result in dismissal from NHS.
- Incoming juniors need to be in the NHS Class of 2020 Group on x2VOL. Make sure you have added yourself before logging hours. Just having an account on x2VOL does not ensure you are in this goal. You should see a bar on the left side of your x2VOL Dashboard with the label: NHS Class of 2020.
